Chicago Gay Pride Parade

The Chicago Gay Pride parade is also referred to as the Chicago Pride parade. It is usually held during the last week, mostly on a Sunday in June. This is when gay people throng the streets of Chicago in an expression of their rights. One can see multi costumed, vibrantly colored people in the procession. This celebration marks the end of the Gay Pride Month.

The history of the Chicago Gay Pride parade dates back to 1970. On a Saturday, twenty seventh of June, the parade was supposed to march from Washington Square park to the Water tower which is present at the cross roads of Chicago and the Michigan avenues. Instead the participants changed plans and cruised to Richard J Plaza. In recent times the Chicago Gay Pride parade is held in the Lake View Community area. The parade starts by noon in the Halsted St, and proceeds from Belmont Avenue and passes the Waveland Avenue. Then it goes to the Grace Street in to the Cannon Drive.

There has been an increasing number of participation by the gay, lesbian and transgender Americans in all walks of life. This trend plays a pretty important role in the number of voters who are gay. So in recent times, the Chicago Gay pride parade has enjoyed enormous financial support from political groups as well as the individual donors. A lot of politicians make it a point to be present in the Chicago Gay Pride parade, be Republican or Democratic. Those who do so enjoy a very good support from the lesbian and gay voters.
